Restaurant Review: Meat Mission, Hoxton Market | Londonist

The latest addition to the MEAT family is born.?Meat Mission is in Hoxton Market, right behind Hoxton Square. Named for the Victorian Christian mission building it inhabits, the d?cor is a subversive take on its surroundings with blacked out walls, dark hues, iron-accented interior, illuminated stained glass panelled ceiling and rocking tunes (pro-tip: hijack the system with the Secret DJ app). Once suitably intoxicated, dive into the confessional turned old-school photo-booth and get some pics to take home (after you?ve fought over who gets which ones).

Scott Collins, co-founder of the growing chain, told us he wanted to provide somewhere that was ?fun and affordable? and that every new addition to the MEAT family is ?always an evolution from the previous venue?. Indeed, as with every family unit, the pressure is on to stand out from your siblings. With Meat Mission this comes in the form of more meaty offerings, and something which has hardcore foodies rejoicing in the aisles, reservations ? hallelujah! At last.

A multitude of sauerkraut-topped, Russian-dressed dogs are worthy additions to the Meaty Mecca, as are the sinfully addictive fried pickles, while the Monkey fingers ? battered chicken drenched in the house hot-sauce ? are divine. The highlight, however, is the Roast Beef Sundae. Seriously. It?s a sundae. Made of meat. And ? for those that can overcome the aesthetic boundaries of indulging in stacks of savouries that should be sugary sweet ? it is an epic treat.

The bottomless sodas and some heavenly cocktails remain, such as the Silver Angel ? a cleaner, lighter Bellini, and the super fruity Space Gin Smash. The legendary Grog (so potent that it?s served two max per patron) still sits proudly on the menu and it?s joined by some hardcore cousins ? the Game Over and the Below Job (heh).

If that wasn?t enough for your insatiable appetite for destruction, you?re welcome to gorge your guts out Man v Food Stylee (without the Richman theatricals) with The Triple Chicken Challenge ? Eat the Dirty Chicken Burger, Buffalo Chicken Burger & Monkey Fingers in the quickest possible time. According to the powers that be, ?at the moment, there is no current record holder?.

Challenge accepted.

Meat Mission is at 14-15 Hoxton Market, N1 6HG. 020 7739 8212. Closed Mondays (Boo!).

Currently taking bookings for The Sitting room, and walk-ins can take a pew in The Downing Wallace Hall.
